Writing Academy Course # 1418WA July 24-August 5, 2011 Overview DetailsIn recognition of the varied skills required to be a working writer, students will work on both creative and journalistic writing. The combination of genres is tailored with different emphasis in projects to nurture the students in their preferred form while giving them tools and skills for the others. Poetry classes focus on lyric, narrative and dramatic poetry, and introduce students to traditional and contemporary poets. Students will explore such topics as textures of language, voice, image, metaphor and context through writing and revising various poetic forms. Fiction classes focus on short story development, exploring structure, character development, conflict and resolution, dialogue and the craft of revision. Playwrighting classes encourage students to think theatrically about situations and dialogue and they will all see the onsite professional theatre production in support of their work. Journalism classes bring together the creative element and the news, with explorations of news and profile journalism, as well as commentaries. Click here to request a printable registration form.
