Transformation/Regeneration

Transformation/Regeneration by Sarah Burwash combines recent sculpture, drawings, digital prints, text-based wall work and take-away printed ephemera. It explores the persistence and continuance of life in the face of obliteration, drawn from the artist’s personal experience traveling home through a huge forest fire in the Okanagan.

“I find myself re-envisioning that car ride and the epiphany I experienced when my dad explained the concept of a forest burning down in order for re-growth. This has become a metaphor in my life and in times of terror and despair, in collapse, I remind myself that we have to burn down in order to let new life and light in. I am reminded of the cycle and the persistence of life. Transformation/Regeneration speaks about the wake after the void, and the journey in-between.”

Sarah Burwash was born in Rossland, British Columbia. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia Okanagan, and studied visual arts at the Hamburg School of Applied Science in Germany. Her work has been shown across Canada and in Europe. She currently resides in Halifax, working at Visual Arts Nova Scotia whilst doing freelance illustration.

Gallery Mandate

Acting in cooperation with a larger vision integrating music, theatre, writing, film, visual arts and dance, our galleries provide a space for multidisciplinary visual arts exhibitions.  It is our belief that together, the arts champion a dialogue fostering collaboration between artists in all disciplines and stages of their careers and the surrounding and global community at large. The Centre is dedicated to encouraging and promoting the arts though education and arts development, and provides a professional environment for artists to present work in a non-commercial venue.

Ross Creek Professional Gallery

Our Professional Gallery focuses on contemporary visual art. Our exhibiting artists are regional, national and international.

RBC Community Gallery

The Community Gallery exhibits work created during our residencies, outreach programs within the community and schools. Additionally, this gallery is often used by our camp programs.
