Please note, while we outline here some of the goals of the specific academy, the academies are also all collaborative.  Students will have core disciplines and mentors while also being challenged to work with students in other disciplines. This creates a more open and creative cross-disiplinary dialogue and community of  young artists who can work in other artistic “languages.” 


Overview

A program for teens who spend a lot of time  dancing (in any form) and want more experience focusing on choreography. From HipHop to Modern, From BBoy to Ballet,  teen dancers passionate about making their own work are welcome, however we do not focus on competition dance,  tricks or cheerleading style dance.


Specifics

July 29 – August 10, 2012


With the guidance of top Canadian choreography and dance mentors, students get the chance to develop new group and solo pieces and take class while also learning about the business of being a dancer. Separate from our Dance Summer Dance Program, this is a special program for those dancers who want to push their creation skills. Choreogaphers will work with musicians and others to develop new works collaboratively and push the boundaries of the dance they already do to develop their own choreographic voice. Each student will develop at least one solo piece along with the collaborative pieces, which will be filmed for their portfolios.


Dance wear:  you should bring dance wear that you would have at your dance school – come prepared to wear the uniform of leggings/tights, leotard or white t-shirt and whatever shoes are appropriate for your style of dance (and be prepared to have bare feet in class). For B-boys and B-Girls, please note that you will have dance class in other forms as well and must be able to move easily – indoor shoes are essential for the marley floor. No booty shorts or bare midriffs for any dancers.
