The National Artist Program for the Canada Games had a new model in 2011. Designed by Artistic Directors Ken Schwartz and Chris O’Neill in collaboration with artist mentors Alexis Milligan, Francois Gaudet, Shauntay Grant and Mark Adam for young artist representatives from each province and territory, it was a resounding success. Beginning with a retreat at the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts and work with local schools, in two weeks these 37 extraordinary young people put aside linguistic, artistic, cultural and geographic divides to create new collaborative Canadian works for their gala presentation. This has become the new model for Ross Creek’s art academies, and a moment of which Ross Creek is very proud.

On the first anniversary of the National Artist Program of the Canada Games, we send congratulations and thanks once again to all the extraordinary young artists, their mentors, team managers and of course the fabulous Canada Games staff and volunteers! A special thanks also to Tim Tracey and his team for the brilliant video.
