Alexis Milligan (Theatre)

Alexis Milligan is a multi-faceted performing artist.  Theatre credits include: Neptune Theatrte, Theatre Garagantua (Dora Award Nominee), Two Planks and a Passion Theatre (Merritt Award Nominee), Theatre NorthWest, Mermaid Theatre and Luna/Sea Theatre.  Television credits include The Mighty Jungle (CBC), and Haven (Showcase TV).  Her choreography and movement direction has been showcased in Toronto and throughout Nova Scotia, including the premiere of Allen Cole’s award winning production of Rockbound (Two Planks)Alexis is an Associate Teacher with the Russian Society of Ballet, a certified Pilates Instructor, and a graduate of George Brown Theatre School, and the British American Drama Academy.

Ami McKay (Writing)

Ami McKay’s debut novel, The Birth House was a # 1 bestseller in Canada, winner of three CBA Libris Awards, nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, and a book club favourite around the world. Her new novel. The Virgin Cure, also a bestseller, is inspired by the life of her great- great grandmother, Dr. Sarah Fonda Mackintosh, a female physician in nineteenth century New York. Born and raised in Indiana, Ami now lives in Nova Scotia.

Gene Daniels (Visual Arts)

Gene is a fine artist who is also the Chair of Foundation Studies at NSCAD University. Originally hailing from Baltimore, MD, Gene has been the recipient of their Faculty Research and Creative Practice Award for his “E-homes” innovative design response to disasters. He has been teaching at Ross Creek for over 5 years and collaborates on our Portfolio program, helping young people reach the art school of their choice. 

Jeff Schwager (Theatre)

Jeff is an established international performer. He most recently played in Neptune Theatre’s Intimate Apparel and Haki in Two Planks and a Passion Theatre’s Beowulf.  He has performed in Neptune Theatre’s Peter Pan and  Two Planks’ The Crucible. He has toured the world with Mermaid Theatre. Other recent credits include: The Game of Love and Chance (Neptune), Macbeth, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Jack and the Beanstalk-Market (SBTS), Backbenchers (CBC Radio), Darwin’s Darkest Hour (National Geographic/PBS).

Mark Adam (Music) 

Drummer/percussionist Mark Adam has made a versatile career across Canada and around the world with jazz musicians, symphonies and rock groups. He has been a mentor during the Canada Games National Artist Program, and  currently does studio and live work with a wide range of Atlantic artists from Classical to Jazz to Rock/Pop, Folk and Country. Mark teaches at Acadia University, directs the Acadia Summer Jazz Workshop, the TorQ Percussion Retreat and many other endeavours.

Sobaz Benjamin (Film)

Sobaz Benjamin studied film at Toronto’s York University and was awarded an apprenticeship for direction from the National Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television in 2001. He served his apprenticeship with Triad Films in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has since completed two independent shorts exploring identity and is currently working with CBC.  Born in London, England and after spending much of his teenage years in Grenada, Sobaz immigrated to Canada in 1990. He now makes Halifax his home with his wife and two children.

Valerie Calam (Choreography)

She has created works for Toronto Dance Theatre, Alias Dance Project, Ryerson Dances, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, as well as many of her own choreographies.  Valerie recently launched Company ViceVersa, a Toronto based contemporary dance organization, where she is the Artistic Director.  Valerie and Company VV presented their first full-evening work in January 2012 at The Citadel (Toronto) through the assistance of Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, and the CreatiVenture Collective. Valerie has been nominated for four Mavor Moore Dora Award including Outstanding New Choreography in 2007.  She is the 2011 winner of the KM Hunter Award for Dance chosen by juries of experienced artists from a selection of grant applications recommended by Ontario Arts Council juries.  She is the drummer in the ‘new age punk’ band “The Tight Ship”.
