Giving voice to Canadians through the arts.

Over the past five years since Ross Creek opened its doors, we have been working with the community to achieve that lofty goal. We need your help to continue this, and to achieve even more. We have had a wonderful five years, touching the lives of thousands of children, thousands of audiences and myriad community members of all ages.  Through our summer camps and school programs, we have helped nurture kids who are proud of their works, who are engaged and kind, and who believe in their own creativity and in helping others find their voices. We have had many success stories of teens gaining admission to the post-secondary art or performing arts schools of their choice, often with scholarships, and we are equally pleased when kids go on to tell us about shows that they have seen or art that they like.

Professional artists have used the centre’s resources to develop incredible work that they wouldn’t normally have the time or space to make, and it has led to successful dance performance across Canada, admission into new galleries, and many other wonderful successes. We have done innovative community programs, bringing together the arts with mental health, agriculture, environment and science, and outreach to some of the most disadvantaged people in our community.  Our bursaries offer a place in our arts programs to kids who desperately need this chance they wouldn’t otherwise get. They often become leaders in the process and take that confidence back to their school and other arenas.

We believe our programs make more creative, happier people who are more successful in school, in work and in life.  In order to continue bringing this programming to our communities, we need your help.

We are focussing on two areas that need assistance. As you can imagine, our bursary programs are completely oversubscribed and we can’t serve the number of kids who desperately want to come and who gain so much from attending. You could make a difference to the lives of one child or many by sponsoring a bursary, and perhaps commit to helping one child each year for five years. We believe this will give the community the promise that we, with your help? will serve the whole community, regardless of their ability to pay.

We also want to focus on our own long-term sustainability. Our outstanding mortgage is $450,000, and we must begin paying that down in a meaningful way. We have no room for error in case of an unexpected expense and we want to make sure we never compromise the quality of our work. This capital debt was important to our ability to open and serve,  but we know it is now time to turn our attention to reducing it. Whatever your interests are in what we do, we can direct your contribution to whatever you feel passionately about. I would be delighted to discuss our work and facilities with you and show you what we’ve been working on.  We also have naming opportunities for long term larger donations, including cabins, studios and programs.

Every tax-deductible donation helps us to provide meaningful arts interaction for someone in your community. Every contribution helps change the lives of many who are able to reach their potential through programming at Ross Creek. Thank you for believing in this unique vision.

Click here to donate online through Canada Helps. You can email me at chris@artscentre.ca to discuss or you can also send a cheque or visa through this form and tell us where you want your contribution designated at Box 190, Canning, NS, B0P 1H0.
